Looking back at February the first thing that comes to mind is the amount of pitching we did. We did client pitches, accelerator pitches and club pitches… and did a lot of them. It’s been busy, but a good busy. The kind of busy that makes you feel like you’re going places and thankfully we are!
⚠️ WARNING: The word Pitch is repeated an ungodly amount of times!
Intertwine these meetings with everything else and the first weeks of uni and you can guarantee it’s been a hectic month for the Grouptag team. Fortunately for us, we have a new member in our startup team. 👋
Client Pitches
As you may know, our B2B2C business model is directed to Universities that want to get their students connected on a whole new level inside and outside of class, we call this Grouptag Education. Meaning, that we have been in contact with a handful of universities and this month we sat down with a Global Industry Engagement manager at one of the big schools here in Melbourne.
🏢 We went into the aesthetic office, commented on the fancy models and art some of the students had made and sat down in the meeting room. After the 20 minute pitch and a insightful discussion we learnt these three main things:
a. We got great feedback and identified the right people and departments to speak with at a university.
b. Cyber security at Universities like this one was next level, we knew it was intense but as this department head said, and I quote, “it’s nearly impossible to implement new platforms” with reference to criteria that even big companies that have been around for years still struggle to pass. So we’re focusing to make sure our entire platform is enterprise-level secure.
c. The concept for Grouptag is unique and needed, but as we have spoken to more university representatives we have identified the key areas of focus in our roadmap.
Regardless, we walked out of the meeting with our heads up, we were excited! More people at this Uni are starting to know our name… it will only be a short time until "Are you on Grouptag?" becomes a common phrase around campus. But, there is lots to do until then! 🧑💻
Accelerator Pitch
Since about October last year we have been working from the co-working space provided by RMIT Activator, we’ve made it our home! As you can see in this photo
I bring this up because we no longer are just here for the space, in Feb we actually applied to be apart of the LaunchHUB Cohort for 2023. This involved a 4 day Bootcamp and at the end a video pitch. 🎥
The pitch i think we did 100 times until we got it right! We ended up changing the concept 2 or 3 times but, we landed on a solid pitch that told a story, effectively the problems the three co-founders had before Grouptag.
Revamp Our Socials
In Feb our newest member of the team joined, Tashiah Aluwihare. She will be handling the next stages of our social media strategy and helping out with the club partnerships.
I for one am really excited to get our social media revamped, we’re gonna start having a TikTok presence (mainly about the team here at Grouptag 💃🏻) and giving better behind-the-scenes content on Grouptag itself.
In addition, we are posting more on Linkedin and Instagram, you’re gonna see more of our brand come to life through these platforms. We want to be recognised as a serious company that doesn’t take itself too seriously.
Oh and we made this 😊 - linktr.ee/grouptagapp
Saying Goodbye
Being in a startup is hard, especially early stage. Plenty of UPs and DOWNs. February saw our first staff step away from Grouptag because of circumstances out of anyone's control. It sucks for everyone and we’re sad to see him go! Wishing him all the best.
We knew startups faced this, but it still sucks! 🤬
Marching into March
Today (the first day of March) we have our first meeting with investors as we begin the raise for seed. Another pitch we have been working hard on. I can only imagine as the month progresses we do more and more presentations in front of so many different people.
As I say every month, subscribe to this blog, download Grouptag if you have failed to do so already and wave at me. You can find me @archer and we will be friends!
Until next time,
Archer Simmonds
